Commissioning a new portrait

Commissioning a new portrait painting is an exciting, intriguing and relaxing experience. It is surprisingly simple. Simon adapts the process to suit each sitter.

Sittings can take place wherever and whenever you wish. Simon will help you to decide. He makes visual notes and drawings. A finished painting might involve as few as a single sitting or couple of sittings.

Things to talk about with Simon:

  • Who is sitting for a new portrait painting?
  • Sittings convenient to your location and time.
  • What will the size of your portrait be?
  • Can Simon suggest the perfect frame?
  • Where will it hang?
  • What will the completion date be?

How much does it cost?

Simon will suggest a size for your painting. Cost follows size. A life-size ‘head and hands’ portrait of a single sitter or couple represents the middle of the range and costs between £7,000 and £9,000. Larger group portraits are likely to be a little more.
